The thing I have been doing my whole life in my free time is reading. And I have been forcing the people that I love to read the books that I love. That’s what it means to be a reader. It’s to read a book and say to your friend, ‘You have got to read this.’ Now I have a place where strangers come in every day and I can force them to buy the books that I love. And what’s more, I can take awaythe books that they almost are buying and say ‘this is no good’. and I do. Every day. if I talk to you and you seem bright and you’ve got a Nick Sparks book in your hand I am going to take it away from you. A lot of people have been asking me about “50 Shades of Grey” I have no problem with you reading porn, but read good porn. Get your Anias Nin.
– Ann Patchett, at a library book reading I attended
I too am glad I stuck around. Hell, I’m glad I went in the first place. It turned out really nicely and I’m proud of the feature I wrote on the reading.

Also, HELL YEAH SHE SIGNED MY BOOK.

She is a really lovely lady.

When ever I see a bookshelf with books in a store I always wonder if the books are real. Usually they are not.

So I give my props to Crate&Barrel for using real books in their displays.

How an E-Book saved a marriage.

Truly I found this so very amusing.

Isn’t that what I have a Goodreads account for?

To read is to fly: it is to soar to a point of vantage which gives a view over wide terrains of history, human variety, ideas, shared experience and the fruits of many inquiries.

First Book wants to give away 1 MILLION BOOKS TO KIDS IN NEED OVER THE NEXT 10 DAYS. Here’s the catch: We want the world to know about the issue of illiteracy and how they can help us fight it. In support of our effort, we will give away a book for every “re-blog”, “retweet”, and “share” we get of  this message on twitter, tumblr and facebook. Get to sharing.
